Where You Should Avoid Installing Your Air Conditioner

Posted on: 30 June 2021

Depending on exactly where you live in the country, it can get pretty hot. Because of this, you will want to make sure that you have an air conditioner installed in your home. There is nothing like enjoying that cool breeze of your AC unit on an excruciatingly hot day. When it comes to the installation of an air conditioning unit, every room in your home is not ideal. Keep reading to learn a few areas of the home where you should not install an air conditioner for optimal use of the system.

Don't Place the AC in Hotter Areas of the House

You do not want to install your air conditioner in a hotter area of the home or the yard. If you do this, then your unit is going to have to work extra hard to keep your home at a cool, comfortable temperature. At the same time, you are likely to see a very high electricity bill. Therefore, it is recommended to ensure that the air conditioner is in a slightly shaded area and not in direct sunlight.

Don't Hide the AC

While it is a good idea to put the air conditioning system in a shaded area, you don't want to hide it behind a plant, couch, or other items that could keep it from functioning properly. If you hide the AC, it could hinder proper ventilation. The same is true outside, as this could cause the coils to become clogged with debris.

Don't Install Near Fire Hazards

It is important to be careful to ensure that your AC is not installed anywhere near any kind of fire hazard or anything that could potentially lead to an electrical fire. This is extremely dangerous for you as well as your property. If you are unsure as to what classifies as a fire hazard, make sure to consult a professional HVAC technician during the installation process.

Don't Install Near a Garbage Can

Finally, you do not want to install your air conditioning unit anywhere near the garbage can inside or outside of the home. The AC breathes in the air around it, filters it, and blows it out. Unfortunately, if the garbage can is nearby, the air that you smell won't be very pleasant.
