Clean the Drains
If the previous owners weren't able to provide you with service records for the plumbing system, the first thing you should do is have your drains cleaned. There could be years of bacteria and waste hiding in the drains. Ignoring the buildup could lead to foul odors and clogs. If you have a septic system, the buildup could even lead to the backup of sewage and bacteria into your bathtubs. Update the Fixtures

If the home you just purchased has a musty odor, or you've found water stains on any of the walls, there's a good chance that there are hidden leaks behind the walls, or under the foundation. The best way to identify the problem is to have your home inspected for leaks.
